Accessible Renting

KFH has partnered with AccessiblePRS to support tenants in the private rented sector with accessible housing needs. The partnership aims to change the narrative around accessibility and to support tenants and landlords alike by understanding its relevance and benefits.

Over 1.8 million people in the UK require accessible housing, including wheelchair users, people with disabilities, and older adults with limited mobility.

Unfortunately, securing suitable rental accommodation remains a significant struggle for many. Research shows that 91% of wheelchair users face barriers when searching for private rentals.

A key issue lies in the lack of detailed information on property listings. Missing details regarding accessibility features prevent individuals from making informed decisions, leading them to miss out on potentially suitable homes.

AccessiblePRS is providing all our lettings staff with training on how to adjust our marketing collateral to enable people with accessibility housing needs to access a property’s suitability easily and quickly.

We will be redesigning our property marketing and internal systems by improving information provided about our rental properties. We have implemented standardised key phrases and terminology to clearly highlight accessibility features in each listing.

We have ensured the most common considerations are covered:

• Step-free access
• Width of doorways
• Wheelchair accessible bathrooms and/or wet rooms
• Lateral living (any property with a kitchen, living room, bathroom and at least one bedroom on the entry level)
