Are you relocating to London?

Relocating to another country can often be quite daunting, particularly if you’re bringing your other half or family in tow. However, if you’re lucky enough to work for a company who are willing to pay for a relocation agent to help smooth over any challenges along the way, it can be a great opportunity to try new things, meet new people and further your career. And let’s be honest  – London is a great city to experience.

London is not only perfectly located for European trips, where you can travel to most destinations in under two hours, but furthermore, for the majority of corporate tenants moving abroad, language is a huge concern, so having English as the first and most widely spoken language is very helpful. Other than this, there are a multitude of challenges that with the experience of our dedicated relocation team, we are employed to advise on. These include:

  • A spouse/partner's career issues
  • Children's education
  • Social integration
  • Adjusting to the job in a new country

The primary role of our corporate services team is to seamlessly integrate corporate tenants into their new life – fundamentally offering a lifestyle package. Often when relocating, corporate tenants are first put up in a hotel, but this can be draining of their relocation funds and impersonal. Our clients want a home away from home while abroad and we are employed to take care of the property searches, previewing and short listing those which best fit the essential requirements, while also providing full area guides so that our clients feel comfortable and knowledgeable about their new surroundings. Landlords are often attracted to the corporate let market – corporate tenants tend to be the ideal type of renter – typically hard working, high earners, financially reliable, secure and respectful, so they know that their property will be well taken care of and tenancies are often longer than normal.

This hasn't always been the case however – pre 2007, relocating employees were given quite ridged expat packages for relocating to another country where funds were strictly allocated for school searches, the number of visas and the size of the temporary accommodation. This has vastly changed and today things are a lot more fluid with companies now moving towards giving their employees a lump sum to spend on their move in the most appropriate way for them. This gives them the flexibility to choose what they want to do and includes spending more on temporary accommodation (short let) and not using a relocation service at all or alternatively others will spend more on school consultants to ensure their children’s education is not compromised.

With London one of the global cities for investment, the trend of company relocations looks set to continue. We are pleased that we get to assist with such a big ‘life move’ and can make the process easier.
