The Party Wall Act 1996 is a law that gives you rights and responsibilities when you or your neighbour carry out certain building work.

'Party wall' doesn't just mean the wall between two properties. Party wall also covers things like floors and ceilings in flats, walls on boundary lines, garden walls and even excavations near your neighbour's property.
