Building survey

A building survey, formerly a structural survey, is the most detailed property inspection available. It was previously known as a full structural survey.

It's different to a homebuyer's report because a building survey takes a more in depth look at the property's construction and condition.

A building survey will tell you in more detail about:

  • Any major problems with the building
  • The general condition of reasonably accessible internal and external parts of the building
  • The roof structure
  • Anything that could be expensive to fix in the future
  • Any suspected problems like timber infestation or damp that might need specialist advice
  • The overall impression of services like water supply and drainage - testing these services isn't included, though

It will also:

  • Look at boundaries, grounds and outbuildings
  • Explain the consequences of any problems discovered during the inspection

We can also tailor a building survey for your needs. For example, we can advise you on any major conversion or renovation you might be planning.

Is it for me?

We can give you a full building survey report on any building, but it's particularly suitable if the property is large, old, unusual or poorly maintained. It is also good for properties that have been substantially altered or extended.
