Building survey

A building survey, formerly called a structural survey, is the most detailed property inspection available for residential flats and houses in London. It was previously known as a full structural survey.

A building survey is different to a homebuyer's report, it takes a more in depth look at your London property's construction and condition.

It will tell you in more detail about:

• Any major problems with the building
• The general condition of reasonably accessible internal and external parts of the building
• The roof structure
• Anything that could be expensive to fix in the future
• Any suspected problems like timber infestation or damp that might need specialist advice
• The overall impression of services like water supply and drainage - testing these services isn't included, though

It will also:

• Look at boundaries, grounds and outbuildings
• Explain the consequences of any problems discovered during the inspection

Is it for me?

However they are recommended for any London property that is large, unusually constructed, old or has not been well maintained. It is always advisable to opt for a full building survey for any property that has seen substantial alterations or extensions.
