Wedged between trendy Islington and Crouch End, Finsbury Park has often been viewed as the deprived distant cousin of both. Now, however, the secret of N4 is out, and it’s quickly developing a reputation for being the latest ‘in’ place.

The area sprawls around a 122-acre park that won the prestigious Green Flag Award in 2007 and 2008. Its grounds include a lake, café and numerous sports facilities.

Beyond the park, business is busy even during these difficult times, with the opening of new restaurants as diverse as Caribbean, Korean and Mauritian. And Paul Morris, chair of the Finsbury Park Business Forum, in August revealed ambitious plans to turn Fonthill Road into the new Upper Street within 10 years, with an £80 million scheme to create new shops, offices and homes.
